"Ultrastar Studio is my personal Xanadu, blocked off from the perils of the outside world..."
ULTRASTAR STUDIO and GALLERY
(continuously being updated)
First opened in 1998 under the name 'Superstar Studio', this loft space served as Apollos' Photography and Art studio as well as an after-hours playground for the subversive crown that attended the Glam and Rock & Roll clubs that Apollo DJ'ed at.
In the winter of 2004, a huge flood caused by constant heavy rains that week and a faulty ceiling, destroyed Superstar Studio. Apollo moved what was left into another vacant space, almost 3 times as large, in the same building, and after almost a year building up the new space with partner/designer Mercedes Sumida, re-opened the studio once again under the new name 'Ultrastar Studio'. This new space was large enough to house a small Gallery as well as 'Le Chic Boutique', a fashion boutique carrying clothing/jewelry designs from local independant designers.
'LE CHIC Boutique', a 60s themed boutique, was a creative idea from the minds of Mercedes and Apollo; to open up a boutique and to represent and carry personally hand made designs that couldn't be bought anywhere else, by various local designers . After almost a year of re-designing the new space, putting together the boutique and finding unique designers, Le Chic Boutique finally opened the doors in late Nov. 2004, with an opening night party as well as Gallery exhibit by painter Sage Vaughn, curated by Rick Royale. Short lived, but not forgotten, Le Chic closed its doors after 2 years to make room for a dedicated Photography studio and Gallery space.
Currently Ultrastar Studio serves as Apollos' Photo Studio and Art space. It also becomes a Gallery a few times a month to host art shows for subversive artists as well as creative events and film festivals.

IMAGES & CLIPS OF PAST GALLERY SHOWS AT ULTRASTAR
"After we closed Le Chic, I ended up turning my studio into a once-a-month Gallery space since I couldn't be bothered to change the content of my own work to be (other)Gallery friendly, plus I really thought that some of the local work that couldn't get Gallery representation should be seen, and I wanted to showcase some subversive art that just didn't scream BUY ME. To me, it wasn't about selling art and getting a percentage, that would just be meter money anyways, it was more about destroying the concept of what Gallery art is supposed to look like, and showing the establishment that the kids can do it too." -Apollo, 2007.

THE INTERVIEWS: Late, late, late, after the bars have been closed for hours, Apollo is busy shooting interviews of some of the guests that have somehow ended up at Ultrastar Studio for afterhours. These are always improvisational shoots, because Apollo likes to "Capture the moment.."
"I keep my camera continuously on the charger since I never know when the Queen of England might walk through the door demanding an impromptu interview..." - Apollo
